Board Provided Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance
Montgomery County ESC provides Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance to all benefit-eligible employees at no cost to you. This coverage is provided through Securian Financial and is designed to offer financial protection for you and your loved ones in the event of a tragedy.
What It Is
Basic Life Insurance provides a lump-sum payment to your designated beneficiaries if you pass away while employed with MCESC. This payment can help cover funeral costs, outstanding debts, or everyday living expenses.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance offers additional benefits if you suffer certain severe injuries or death due to an accident. This coverage can help with medical costs, rehabilitation, or financial needs following a sudden accident.
Your Coverage
Amount: $60,000 flat benefit
Cost: 100% paid for by Montgomery County ESC
How It Works
Automatic Enrollment: If you are benefit-eligible, you automatically receive this coverage — no action is required unless you wish to change beneficiaries.
Beneficiary Designation: It’s important to designate a beneficiary to ensure your benefits are distributed according to your wishes. You can update this information through the Employee Self-Service (ESS) portal or by contacting Human Resources.
Claims Process: In the event of your passing or qualifying accident, your beneficiary will file a claim with Securian Financial to receive the benefit payment.
Voluntary Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance
In addition to the Board-provided coverage, Montgomery County ESC offers the option to purchase additional life and AD&D insurance for yourself, your spouse, and/or your child(ren) through Securian Financial. This allows you to tailor coverage to meet your family’s needs and provides an extra layer of financial protection.
What It Is
Voluntary Life Insurance provides you with the opportunity to increase your life insurance coverage beyond the basic amount provided by MCESC. Voluntary AD&D Insurance can also increase protection in the event of an accident that results in death or severe injury.
Who Can Be Covered
Employee: Additional coverage amounts are available.

How It Works

Premiums: Costs vary based on the amount of coverage you choose and your age. Premiums are paid via payroll deduction.
Beneficiary Designation: You will designate beneficiaries for your voluntary coverage separately from the basic life insurance.
Claims Process: In the event of a qualifying loss, beneficiaries will file claims directly with Securian Financial to receive benefits.
